The company I work for is looking to go to RAID-5, or the much less
expensive mirrored (RAID-1) solution.

Has anybody had experiences with combining an HP3000 (we have a
980-100, MPE/iX 5.5) with RAID technology?

A RAID-5 with 10GB will run us over $40k. It is actually cheaper for
us to buy an HP server 2xPentium 166 with 20GB of RAID-5. Geesh.

From what I've seen, the HP RAID-5 solution is a fiber-link option
only. I was hoping to find a SCSI/RAID-5 controller for the 3000 and
then add an HP-server SCSI array. Am I overlooking anything?

Any thoughts would be appreciated (including mentions of performance
impacts).

Thanks.
