What a silly arrogant comment.

The fact that HP, had no idea what the problem is, indicates that it hardly
a simple lack of knowledge. The HP freezes and there appears to be little
or nothing you can do to get the jobqueue running again, you simply have to
re-boot to free up locked sessions and jobs.

My understanding from my colleagues is this it used to be supplied as part
of the operating system and now isn't, perhaps more learned people on this
list could correct me if this is wrong.

We tried this but it had no affect, in the same way that ABORTJOB had no
affect, thanks anyway.

Obviously this list is biased and I'm sure if I asked the question would you
rather use Unix, Linux, MPE or NT, then most will say MPE. I think people
should step back a bit, MPE, is ok, but is it really as good as everyone
makes out.

I am currently a consultant (mainly programming in Powerhouse and JCL), but
have been an IT Manager and performed most system manager tasks at some
point. I can honestly say, I wouldn't pick MPE, just because of it's lack
of support in the big wide world. One example to me was when HP came on
site to do a complete check of our box, nearly every diagnostic they used
was running in Unix (Pos/ix) not MPE. I don't know if this is simply a
policy decision, but I would guess there are more tools available.

I think everyone's hysteria about how everything, apart from MPE, is crap,
is completely unfounded. I'm sure MPE has it strong points, but it also has
it's limitations.

I am far from a Linux or NT expert and resisted and moaned when I started
learning it, but have to admit your options, and support on the net are
massive compared to MPE. As others have made the point, why get bogged down
with MPE, why not broaden you wings, good Linux Sys Admins are very hard to
find, not to mention very well paid, so apply your knowledge and experience
to something else.

This may seem that I'm bagging the HP all the time, I'm not, I'm just being
realistic, in my opinion.
