I've had the same "buyout" problems with Earthlink - first Netcom was
bought by ?someone?, then they were bought by Earthlink. Over a year
later, I had to call a special number to gtet support, and there was
very little communication.

In contract, I've had good luck with ATT, especially with their Global
capabilities, at least to Austrailia. Their dialer add-on is very good
and they update the numbers directly to your PC, so your can set up a
new number when you get to your destination without having to connect
via an 800 number. It also does not interfere with other dialers, etc.
and since it sets up a Windowsdial-up connection, you can connect
directly from Outlook or IE without having to open their dialer.

Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] DSL Provider Recommendations

Earthlink is very area dependant. I have had great luck with them in
the San Fernando Valley and my Family in the North Los Angeles County
area do well with them, however, my brother had the same problems other
people are experiencing when Earthlink buys out an ISP. He lives in the
central coastal region of California and changed providers. You are
probably better getting a recommendation locally.
