Strange. We just bought a 5N with JetDirect J2550B, firmware A.05.05,
and I
had no problem setting it up as a network printer on the 3000...

Now can anyone tell me how to configure the 3000 to send the output in
portrait versus landscape? I don't want to use environment files and file
equations, I just want my 3000 print jobs to print in portrait.

It appears that the default is to use landscape, but this is easily fixed at a
global level or device level.

1. Create a file with your favorite editor and include on line 1 the
     following escape sequence.
     <esc> &l0O
Of course you may include other escape sequences as requited, or
add this escape sequence to an existing setup file.

2. In your NPCONFIG.PUB.SYS file at a global or on each device line
     include the clause -- setup_file = yourfilename --.

3. Stopspool and then Startspool your printers to make them aware
of your changed NPCONFIG.PUB.SYS file if the setup_file clause was
not previously there, or do nothing if the setup_file clause already
existed. Each time a spoolfile is created, it will check the filename in
the setup_file and add the contents to the beginning of the data going
     down to the printer.
