All very true.  However, in this case we are connecting two buildings
separated by a heavily-used driveway to our loading docks.  There is
an existing underground 2" conduit between them that already has a
50-pair telco cable in it.  In order to go to cat 5 I would have to
fish a new cable through the conduit and if I'm going to do that I'm
going to use fiber-optic which will cost in the neighborhood of
$2000 to do properly (lot higher than 2c :-)).  So, I think we'll see
if we can live with the existing cat 3 cable and go to fiber if/when
we need to.
