Here's a dumb question. Did you accidentally switch the display output to
the CRT connection? It -should- return to the LCD on a reboot, but you
never know.
$400 to fix it, plus another $40 to answer mandatory questions before
they'll fix it??? Quite a racket they got going there.
It sounds likes its time for a new laptop.
Personally, I've had good luck with Dell laptops for the last 5 years.
Own 3 of them right now.
You'll want to pull your data off if you decide to send it in. They may
decide to help you out by reformatting the hard drive.
Try plugging a monitor into it and see if its -just- the screen or
something else. You may have to toggle the crt/lcd key. If you can get a
signal you can work with it and copy your data to a portable USB drive or
burn a CD or something depending on what you've got to work with.
You can also get the data off by pulling your HDD it and connecting it to
another PC. Get something like this for your toolbox; www.cyberguys.com,
p/n 131 0862, ~$20; and you won't even have to crack your PC.
