If it is the XCONTRAP calls that cause the overhead and delays,
then it might be an "architecture issue" not a plain bug that has
to be fixed. Check out the HP3000-L archives, there have been one
or more threads discussing the differences of NS/VT and Telnet in
regard to the handling of Ctrl-Y traps, for example.
