I don't know of any good intros, but a really handy reference that I like a
lot is O'Reilly's "UNIX in a Nutshell". Almost all of the major commands
are covered reasonably well, as are many important subsystems (ksh, vi,sed,
awk, make...). It's definitely worth the $20 price tag.

[ Yep, even the "bc" command is covered quite thoroughly, although I still
had never heard of it until Mark's posting earlier today in a different
thread. Thanks, Mark! ]

Another good resource is HP's own "MPE/iX Shell and Utilities User's Guide"
(reorder or manual part no. 36431-90002; manufacturing and bar code part
no. 36431-90006). [ why are there two different part numbers? ].
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a pdf version of this manual at
http://www.docs.hp.com

Finally, I'd recommend running the POSIX tutorial that should exist on your
HP e3000:

Good luck!
