I am aware of that. A FUNDAMENTAL requirement of moving to IA-64 is having
the compilers available. I would suspect that the SPL/SPLASH compiler could
be ported to IA-64 far easier than some attempt at re-writing all of the
SPL-type code into some other language.
On the other hand, there is the potential for a semi-automated "convert SPL
to C" approach. Requires more work on the utility software's source code but
you end up with a more supportable base of source code.
Gavin: You said "languages" not "language" - by that do you mean various
dialects of SPL? From postings before, I understand that somehow HP allowed
developent to happen using things other than one standard compiler for SPL.
Not exactly a very good management approach but solveable by standardizing on
one consistent compiler/syntax which might incorporate various additional
features found in various dialects.
