James,

Development server is multiple files every night, thus the need to use mput
instead of put. This is also a good way to insure that your logic is
accurate whether you are pushing one or hit that threshold and begin
creating multiple (reel) file backups. So, use mput always to insure that
ALL store files created get FTP'd off the box.

One thing I did not mention in my previous post, but was apparent to those
that use FTP a lot, is that mput and mget do not allow for a target
location as does get and put. So, what I did was setup an account on the
HP3000 called BACKUP that had the groups PUB, FULL, PARTIAL and DATABASE
and then emulated the same folder structure on the Windows box. (i.e. Top
directory called c:\BACKUP with subsequent subdirectories PUB, FULL,
PARTIAL and DATABASE.

So, mputs aside, to retrieve these files you would invoke FTP from the
HP3000 as an example and open a connection to the Windows server and cd
/BACKUP/DATABASE and then also lcd /BACKUP/DATABASE. Using the mget command
for /BACKUP/DATABASE/MYSTORE@ which will qualify the first 'reel' file and
subsequent reels. The trick is to come up with a file naming convention
that only uses 7 characters (I'm sure you could use '*' instead, but this
works for me). This will 'get' /BACKUP/DATABASE/MYSTORE,
/BACKUP/DATABASE/MYSTORE.2, /BACKUP/DATABASE/MYSTORE.3, etc back onto your
HP3000. The only thing missing in my example is the code type which I have
already explained how I set it with the correct code of 2501.

With multi-reel std files or just one? If more than one then what do
you do with the non-MPE namespace reels? I wish to specifically test
the situation where the backup spans more than one file on disc. As
you can tell from my previous posts our present store is just at the
cusp of requiring more than one reel. I wish to confirm in my own
mind that our plan will work with multiple reels. I do not wish to
have to do two and on-half hour ftp transfers each way just to test
this but if one cannot alter the size of the std files then this is
exactly what I will have to do.

Jim
