Subject: ADV: De-centralising HP print jobs to local HP Laser printers

Hello everyone,

We at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, are looking at ways in which we can
re-direct print jobs from our Central Computer Centre's (CCC) high-volume
printers to local departmental printers (most have HP Laserjets).

Currently many of the college's departments are having to physically walk
some distances to the CCC, to collect their print outs. We are trying to
find ways to bascially put the printing onus back onto their own local
printers.

The print jobs range from simple plain paper reports, right through to
complex COBOL student enrolment forms, where specialised stationary is
required (ie: double sided, 3 part forms, labels, etc).

At this stage, we are looking for other parties, in this forum, that may
have had similar problems in the past, especially on how to direct the
spool files from the HP3000 to a local PC and automatically initiating
local printers to them. Also, how did you handle the pre-printed
stationary.

Is there a HP3000 software package that can allow users, from their telnet
application (Reflections 1), look at their spool files, and manage them to
be download into their servers? Better still, would be a facility to allow
a selection of spool files and have them batched into their PC for future
downloading (a print-preview feature perhaps).

Any comments, advice, suggestions, anything would be greatly appreciated.

Please do not hesitate to email me personally should you need further
information.

Thank you in advance...

Fernando Olmos
