That may be, but I find it strange the system does not respond to a
CTL-B prompt.  That kind of leads me to think there may be a hardware
issue at work here.

If it were my system, which does not have hardware support, I would open
it up, blow the dust and cobwebs off everything, make sure everything is
seated properly and check the disk drive cables and connections.  Then I
would reboot and see if it occurs again.  If I had hardware support, I
would contact the support provider and get them on site.

In these situations, anything you say is just a wild guess, but I can
tell
you how to create this kind of situation, even though it may not be your
particular problem.

If a user -- for whatever reason -- grabs the console function and then
begins typing something but doesn't finish with a carriage return -- and
then walks
away from his terminal, leaving it in that state, the console message
buffer
will eventually fill up. Once that happens, voila, everyone else's
terminals
"freeze up" just as you describe, including the one that you think is
the
console.

The cure is: don't do that.
