Do you use VSTORE to verify that you backup tapes are actually being
valid?  You should be able to confirm that the tape drive is good by
verifying @.PUB.SYS from your last backup with the tape in LDEV 7 and
LDEV 8.  If they are not the same... then you might have a problem with
the DAT.

You also have verified that the alternate boot path is indeed correct
and points to LDEV 7....
