Jim....You can make the cable this way.  First you need to make a RJ45 to
RJ45 rolled cable (cisco term) that is pin 1 to pin 8, pin 2 to pin 7,
pin 3 to pin 6 and so forth. Next get a male RS232 to RJ45 adapter, that
has the leads not connected yet.  Cisco calls this part of the adapter
MMOD, maybe in electronics you can buy one labeled modem which may be
wired correct. Here is the pin out you will need to end up with.

     cisco RJ45 side             male RS232 modem side
      pin 1                           pin 5
      pin 2                           pin 8
      pin 3                           pin 3
      pin 4 & 5                       pin 7
      pin 6                           pin 2
      pin 7                           pin 20
      pin 8                           pin 4
