What you should probably look at is QCTerm from AICS. It's a free terminal
emulator that runs over telnet and has specialized escape sequences for
doing GUI type stuff and you can totally avoid the whole client/server
pain.
MF and Accu use to run on the 3000 in posix, but I think they both dropped
it.

Subject: GUI COBOL ON THE HP3000
I want to write some new applications in COBOL on the HP3000 (because I
don't know any other language or machine). I want to have nice 'GUI'
type screens running on the PC but all the processing running on the
HP3000. It would be useful if these programs would be platform
independent. I have been to Microfocus COBOL and AccuCOBOL
demos/workshops, I know that these will run on UNIX boxes but does
anybody know if these programs will run on the POSIX shell of the
HP3000? Or do I need to look at Legacy-J?
Any comments gratefully received.
