Are you actually running BIND on the 3000?

This implies that the DNS server isn't configured or running on the 3000 --
if you set "some other client" (i.e., a PC on your internal network) to use
the HP3000 as the DNS server, can it connect and does it correctly resolve
names [both internal and external -- you may have to disable your "hosts"
file on the client to make sure...]

If your DNS services are handled externally [at your ISP, for example], have
they received the correct "A" record information?
