Michael,

I think the point of the original email (which I agree with) is "why
doesn't HP help facilitate an OpenMPE/Linux Emulator", rather then "why
doesn't HP create an OpenMPE/Linux Emulator". The distinction there being
that HP wants out of the MPE business, effective December 2006. If HP were
part of the community that donated funds to OpenMPE for the creation of the
emulator AND/OR facilitated the creation by allowing access to MPE source
code by the developers AND/OR allowed for the licensing of MPE on hardware
that was not originally manufactured as an HP3000 or e3000 computer, then
they would be helping to meet this part of the vision for the OpenMPE
community, as outlined by Joseph.

Thanx,

Joseph and Don,
it may be that simple, but what if

HP & CSY don't have the capability anymore to maintain MPE, Image, VPLUS
for the future.

Anybody given any thought to that?
How many "good" developers work and maintain MPE?
Are they capable if re-writing it for the IA-64 or needed for HP-UX and
Linux?
As little as HP invested in marketing the 3000, I bet they lack the people
for mayor changes and enhancements.
