Oh but HP has not yet even commited to upgrading COBOL-II/iX to comply with
the new COBOL standard. It would be nice if they did that (soon) as COBOL is
the dominant language on MPE/iX and is it a nice idea to comply with
internationaly accepted standards.
A considerable lobbying effort needs to get directed at HP on this subject.
I suspect that most HP-3000 COBOL programmers are either a) not aware of the
pending standard change or b) not aware of HP's head-in-the-sand approach to
this.
It might even be smart for HP to incorporate the IA-64 syntax changes
(CALLALLIGNED64, etc?) into the PA-RISC compiler so we can have identical
source code in the future for both PA-RISC and IA-64.
