If a person feels that their particular scripture is the one and only Word
of some Almighty, would you disapprove if their strong personal belief drove
them to become a missionary, to go out and convert as may "sinners" as
possible?

I think you are exaggerating.  You are talking about the narrow-minded
segment of the religious community, these people are the ones I told you
about, who use religion to control others, because they 'know' they are
'right'.  I venture to say most people are not like that.
