To expand a bit further, ensure that you hard set all the network parameters
on both the HP3000 and the switch (speed, duplex....).  The auto-negotiate
feature is notorious for not working correctly on both the 3000 and
switches.

To see if this may be the problem enter the command "LINKCONTROL
@;STATUS=ALL" and check for things like carrier losses, crc errors, frame
losses, collisions and heartbeat losses.

The most common Network problem we have on A/N class
is a missmatch in switch-->nwcard config.

I guess that your old 957 just had it's 10 Mb card.
Now you have a 10/100 card with some extra configs.
