Jeff,

Check all third party software for activation keys and upgrade
costs.  If you have the luxury of having both systems available
at the same time, do a 'practice' reload to test your slt and full
backup tapes, as well as your process.

install from your slt
configure hw
restore the directory from your full backup
restore @[log in to unmask]@ with a keep option from your full

if you want to minimise downtime, you might do a full backup
on a thursday night.  do the install and reload to the new
system during the day friday.  do a partial backup friday
night, and restore this to the new server for your cutover.
The risk here is that xxx files will be purged during the day
Friday on the production server, and these would 'reappear'
as a result of the upgrade.
