FTP is part of FOS starting with 5.0 (and including 5.5). So is Thinlan/link
(also with 5.5).

Whether or not you still need NS/3000 depends upon what you were using it
for and the machines with which you are communicating.

If NS/3000 is being used only to transfer files to another HP3000 - you can
replace this functionality with FTP - as long as the other machine also has
FTP. Of course you may have to change job streams and procedures to replace
DSCOPY with FTP where appropriate.

If you were using the interactive portion of NS/3000 (eg. dsline, remote
hello, etc.), FTP does not replace that functionality - although, with the
promised incoming telnet in 5.5 - you may finally have all the pieces you
need as long as both machines are running 5.5.
