I just installed 6.5 on a 927 and Samba was a snap to get running. The only
things I needed to do was configure the /SAMBA/PUB/lib/smb.conf, and put
"LocalHost" with the 127 address in the HOSTS.NET.SYS file.

On 5.5, I downloaded the stuff from the website but never got it running (I
also didn't give myself enough time to get everything right). As u know, as
of 6.0, Samba is included with MPE so I believe it is better optimized
because it intalls as part of the update/install.

I've also noticed it to be slow; this is a comment I've heard before but it
is running on a little 927 with 192 MB of memory so is that a fair statement
to make? I'm not sure.

I'd also like to add that this update to 6.5 was about the smoothest I've
ever done. Not one gotcha. Kudos to HP.

What am I using it for? Nothing at this point but wanted to go through the
process since I thought it would be cool to access a share on the HP from PC
land, and 'cause I know this will come in handy at some future point.

Okay, I've been reading the 'Configuration & Management MPE/iX Internet
Services" manual to understand what Samba is and what it can do for me.
I've gone to docs.hp.com for more info (couldn't find much).

Who out there is using this and for what. You can send me your comment
privately so this site won't become cluttered. I'm also looking for
info on how to set it up. I'm not that familiar with the Posix shell
yet so I've got a serious learning curve here.
