Not to hijack this thread, but I once contracted to a shop that had an
AS400 and an hp3k...they did an IPL on the AS400 every Sunday, and when
they got the 3k, they did an IPL on it every Sunday, too.  I explained
to them that the 3k could literally run for years without an IPL, and
that they certainly did not need to IPL the 3k every week.  They just
scoffed at the very idea of not doing an IPL every week, and when I left
(2 years later), they were still doing an IPL every Sunday to both
boxes.
