The "new" HP has decided to substitute Compaq versions of the HP e-PC 42
WITHOUT ASKING US. The units we received are NOT ACCEPTABLE, and we can't
use them, causing us additional expense as well as putting us in a severe
time crunch to find an alternative and get the alternative ordered,
delivered, and installed in a very short time frame (Thanks HP!).
Gee, you would think that if you specify equipment and have a quote that
lays out each item, that is what you would get. The "new" HP apparently
doesn't work that way.
We buy the HP e-PC 42 because we connect them to KVM switches and so must
have PS-2 keyboard/mouse connectors. The Compaq version doesn't use PS-2 -
it uses USB keyboard and mouse, and thus, we can't use them.
Anyway, these Compaqs are going back to HP so we need to find a vendor that
sells a small, robust, low power PC with the following characteristics:
-- form factor must be similar to that of the HP e-PC42
-- electrical power consumption must not exceed 80 watts (HP e-PC 42 draw
half that, at 40 watts)
-- 1.8 GHz or faster Pentium IV processor
-- 512 MB RAM
-- 20 GB 7200 RPM ATA-100 HD
-- ATI RADEON (any model) video card
-- 100BT ethernet card (3Com preferred)
-- 24x or faster CD drive
-- 1 or more serial ports, 115000kbps
-- PS-2 keyboard
-- PS-2 mouse
-- sound card not required
The form factor and power requirements are tight. We can probably fudge a
little on the other requirements.
If anyone knows of a suitable replacement, please let me know.
Thanks!
John
