What brand of barcode terminal are you using?
LXE's are definitely a TELNET device. Also, pinging the terminal (actually
the terminal's RF base unit) is a much lower-level protocol than a terminal
connection (session).
Yes, telnet server should be running, if that's the protocol the terminal
expects to use.
