Denys:
Thanks for your help as always.
The reason I started this posting is because I got the opportunity of buying
a "cheap" 918LX.
I saw the system today. It boots up ok, goes to the ISL> prompt ok. I did a
START NORECOVERY with NOSYSSTART (SYSSTART on the 2nd attempt) and I got a
ton of errors each time as it came up. (BAD UFID on spoolfiles)
Unfortunately, this 918LX is really old, the colon prompt says "MPE XL:"
indicating a very old version of MPE. The two disc drives for LDEV 1 & 2 are
only 2gb' ers, very little memory in it and only a DDS-2 tape drive.
Also, this 918LX is missing the metal frame and plastic face plate.
Moreover, at the colon prompt I tried to log onto MANAGER.SYS (with a parm=-1)
but there was a user password on MANAGER and no one in the warehouse knew
what it was, so I could get logged on to go into sysgen to see what was
actually configured.
I think the $400+ they want for it is a bit excessive.
I would only offer them $50 for it as I would have to spend quite a bit of
$$$ on it just to get it up to par with my 917LX.
The only reason I would want this 918LX is so I can upgrade to 7.5 PP?
Maybe it is not worth the trouble?
Anyone's comments and suggestions would be appreciated as always.
TIA,
Brian.
