I've watched this thread for some time now. I can only hope that this is
all a rumor. If it is not a rumor and the HP e3000 is being put out to
pasture, then it shows that HP is not in any way related to Bill and Dave's
company, and I'll have to think long and hard about what kind of
relationship I want to have with the "new HP".

<begin rant>
I'm only human, and as such, I have feelings too. I've been a loyal HP
user since 1972.  I've used HP 1000's, HP 2000's, HP 3000's, HP 9000's, and
I own a wide variety of HP calculators, starting with an HP 35 back in
1972. My HP 16C calculator has gone to work with me almost every day for
the last 17 years. My Jornada is almost a year old now.

I've used the HP 3000 since 1978. I have an old classic system up and
running (24x7) in my basement. I've spent the last six months fighting to
get an HP e3000 into my organization. I'm almost there (it has gotten to
the point of my having filled out the purchase requests for the system and
some 3rd party software, but the purchase requests still need senior VP
signatures).

I've loyally supported HP and the HP e3000 for many, many years. My career
is on the line. I "bet the farm" on getting an HP e3000 in here. If HP
pulls the rug out now (kills off the HP e3000) you can bet I'll return
their loyalty in kind and there will probably be either a Sun UNIX box or a
Dell Linux box here in place of an HP box of any kind. Not only that, but
they will lose my maintenance and hardware upgrades as well. Not a smart move.
<end rant>
