Folks,
As part of the self-assessment of our hardware and software
inventory/assets, we looking at possibilities for implementing version
control. This is a little more difficult for our client/server apps
which reside partially on MPE platforms (mainly the server components),
partially on WinTel, and partially on web clients. Now on WinTel
platforms, the current standard in use at this shop is MS Source Safe
(which covers the web client components as well).
The question is what to use for MPE, and whether to link it into the
Source Safe repository or not. Of course, doing so has the problem of
establishing controls so that source gets checked in and out from one
platform to another, and that no one does a quick-and-dirty change on
the HPe3000 that doesn't get captured (a big problem in the past).
Another consideration is the use of RCS under the Posix shell, with the
hope that it will more easily migrate to the HP-UX platform and leaves
the MPE inventory self-contained until then.
So... any thoughts? preferences? recommendations? things to avoid?
Is anyone else dealing with this, either in terms of their migration, or
in the past (either for DRP or as part of their Y2K conversions)?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanx, Ric
