Just some comments from an ex-DISCer.  Rich Trapp now works for Managed
Business Solutions.  His e-mail is [log in to unmask]  I am sure that he
wouldn't mind my giving it out to the HP community.  He is still very
involved with the HP platform - just not as visible as he once was.

When I was working at DISC (and I left in August 97), one of the
projects that I was working on was a replacement for DBMGR that would
provide a web-based front end to the capabilities.  So the understanding
that they didn't plan to upgrade it much anymore is perhaps somewhat off
base.  I know that it is not a big money maker for them and that it has
traditionally served second fiddle, but the plans then were for it to be
more integrated into the Omnidex product family as an extension to their
client/server family.  I would suggest that you validate this through
the support desk for sure - because we all know how plans can change in
a year in this industry.
