More thoughts . . .

Suppose that Ford made a copy of the Corvette.  Then the media described the
Mustang as the older car line.  Does it mean the line is newer since they
have made a recent copy?

The point is that the labels are degrading the image of the product.  Reread
the paragraph substituting "older proprietary" with "easier to use and more
stable".
