Personally, I feel it lacks some of the energy of past conferences, like
San Francisco (didn't go to Stuttgart) and Denver (as I recall). Also,
while the proceedings are fairly thick (guesstimating 2.5 to 3 inches),
many of the presentations are "tutorials," which do NOT include a paper
in the single-book proceedings.
 
Also missing is the "State of the Product Line" address.
 
The showing of "Synergies" was, IMHO, similar in technology to "1995" of
several years ago, but with high drama (beginning with a 7.5 quake in
L.A., ending with the rescue of a family) and a few more PDA's (handheld
with camera, notepad with "whiteboard," all with colour conferencing to a
central site with HDTV-aspect-ratio Apple-AV-style monitors).
Interestingly, the HP speaker acknowledged in a short speech at the
conclusion that "no single vendor" would provide all the solutions.
