the HP-IB or the GP-IB is business name(?) and actually IEEE-488(?), 
like the FireWire is IEEE-1379

Actually, the old RTE(HP1000) with the Fortran Library to call
the HP-IB commands.
in Inside the Fortran code write some the HP-IB commands.

It will talk to the any IEEE-488 device to read/send data like old 
the IBM MUX channel.

Isn't HP-IB simply a proprietary version of what used
to be known as IEEE?  There used to be converters out
there (Black Box in BSEPA?)  It seems you could configure
in a "supported" device, then run it through a converter
kit...
