Well, after a lot of cursing, I got my PC SoftFax to send a fax from the
LapTop.  It involved downloading the driver from the Compaq web site,
and getting some fax software installed.  So I can send a fax cover
page with text inserted to a fax machine somewhere.

What I cannot yet do is get the fax modem to be treated like a printer.

So that is the next step.

Next thing will be to try the document writer format, I think.
