NETCONTROL UPDATE - Works or Not?

Has anyone had any bad experiences using NETCONTROL UPDATE with 5.0?

I added a gateway today, and did a NETCONTROL UPDATE and BOOOOOM!  NS
SERVICES hung effecting all 800 users on this box.  Console was spitting
'unable to send msg' errors. VT connections were hosed.  My DTC
connections were fine.  I tried to stop NS but it wouldn't even abort.
Remedy was 1 shot of CTRL-B.
