I have to agree with the sentiment expressed in this statement.
However, I think that the whole tread is missing the boat. I firmly
believe that HP has (or should have) a vested interested in touting the
benefits of the HP 3000. Unfortunately, they have a conflict of
interest in that they also have a UNIX solution which runs Oracle (about
as good as most other UNIX systems - slow!).

Here's where my philosophy comes in... I think that the user community
has to take a greater responsibility for getting the word out about the
capabilities and openness of the HP 3000 as a solution. In this regard,
I have indicated my thoughts to Interex that I believe they need to take
an active role in touting the HP 3000. One of the best things that they
could do for the user community is to provide "ammunition' for the UNIX
vs. NT vs. MPE wars that will be fought in the coming months in a number
of shops. I agree that most management that is involved in the decision
making process is too far removed from the IT arena and easily swayed by
articles and advertisements in leading "business publications". Maybe
what we really need is someone who can write - and who is willing to
write - business related articles touting the HP for such publications
as "Business Week" (et. al.). (Any takers?)

Any thoughts on how the user community can tackle this role more
effectively. I think the ABC thread is a step in the right direction.
How can we build on this?

Glenn
