Neil,

I'm glad to see HP hardware goes both ways - no pun intended.

I would be curious as to what the HPCPUNAME system variable was showing.

Well, Jens and I have just completed demo's at two HP300 Customer Events
(aimed at reviving interest in the HP3000 in South Africa), and our
HP3000 was actually an HP9000 E55.

The local engineers kindly loaded MPE/iX 5.5, gave it an HPSUSAN of our
choice, and voila!, she works.

I believe it was the equivalent of the HP3000 988LX, and I must say, it
flew!

So, it is certainly physically possible to go from 9k to a 3k.
It's just a feeling, but I could have sworn the box looked happier as an
HP3000 :)

Regards

Neil
