There are many reasons for the low voter turnout. The main overriding one is
apathy. This is endemic to our society and, whilst it is deplored in various
circles, it is not necessarily a bad thing. When someone chooses to not vote,
he or she has, in a sense, voted.

Last year the vote was thrown out causing the BoD to offer an amendment which
was aimed at preserving the association. This amendment caused some turmoil on
this list, yet the vote on the amendment was very small, with a minority
opposing it. The vote this year was also very small.

It seems to me that few people care about Interex and what it does.

This listserv reaches over a thousand people. If we were to say that everyone
who voted for both Janet and me came from this list, (and I do not believe that
for one single, solitary second), that would mean about 200 people from this
group voted. I think it is probably closer to 100, which represents about 10%
of the group. Where is the other 90%. Does this mean 90% of the users of this
group chose to not vote? In a way, that is correct. I believe that 90% of the
users on this list did not vote simply because they are not members of Interex.

So, if you agree that 90% of the membership did not vote because they do not
care and 90% of HP3000-L (the most activist group of HP users) did not vote
because they are not members, where does that leave us? What is one to do in
this situation? Does the situation even need remedy?

I have my own thoughts on this, but I would like to hear from you. Please
reply privately to me, after all we do not want to offend 90% of the listserver
users. :) I am setting up a rule in my mailbox wizard which will forward the
messages directly to a priority folder. To make sure your message gets sent
there, simply put BOD somewhere in the subject field.

Thank you to the people who voted, for me or anyone else.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .
