In all fairness to the MF COBOL poduct....

1. MF COBOL is essentially a runtime interpreter. If you know and understand
this then you can't possibly be serious about addressing efficiency issues
such as XLs and KSAM.

2. The port of MF COBOL to MPE was essentially a 'blind' port from HP-UX.
The Micro Focus people do not want to know about MPE, and my understanding
is that HP assured them that they didn't need to.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. (well, technically you can, but
it's quite messy and distasteful). Do you want portability or platform
specific performance features like XL's, KSAM, turboImage, etc.

Suggestion:
If you want to use XL's and KSAM write an interface in C or Pascal and call
it from MF COBOL, g++, or the 3rd party 'ported' product of your choice. It
ain't hard. I've done it.
