I had that problem once or twice. The answer; POWER CYCLE, yes the
entire machine... unless you know how to power cycle the DDS drive
without disturbing the entire machine.

Problems with DDS(1,2,3) tape drives, the solution is DLT. Simple as
that. I've used DDS's for daily backups, and I am convinced that they
weren't designed to be used that often. Use the DDS drives for software
& OS updates, installs, NOT recommended for daily use.

As of yesterday (it was ok before that), we stopped getting messages
'Volume
mounted on LDEV 7' when we insert a tape into our DDS2 tape drive. The
DDS2
tape drive is brand new and we got it about 2 weeks ago. Are there any
suggestions before I should change the tape drive again? I tried to
clean the tape
drive couple of times (one after another), I went to SYSGEN and
hold/keep IO,
restarted the system after that and still no good.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks
David Raschka
