Hi!

I am looking for some personal opinions on SpeedWare v6.0 to evaluate
if we should consider migrating some legacy in-house applications to
another environment. The most of the applications are running
SpeedWare v6 on an HP 3000/958 MPE/XL 5.5. There are some scattered
SpeedWare v5 around. If you are using it, or have used it, here are
some of my questions:

-- You should upgrade all of it to the latest version 7 release

1. What is your overall impression with the product as compared to
other 4GLs?

-- I've always thought that SpeedWare was the best 4GL that was ever on the
3000

2. How well does it support web-enabled requirements?

-- Autobahn works very well and allows you to get to the web quickly and
easily

3. Where do you see SpeedWare for the long-term? Is it an in-demand
product? Or, is it being superceded by other products? If the later,
which products are replacing it?

-- SpeedWare is more active on the 3000 than Powerhouse, but they aren't as
financially stable. That said, they have been around for 15 years or so
and I don't see them going away any time soon.

4. Are SpeedWare programmers a difficult to find?

-- Yes, but I gave up trying to find them, it was so easy to teach to a
COBOL/FORTRAN/PASCAL programmer, that we had people productive within a
couple of weeks.

5. Is there anything else I should consider?

-- Think about Visual Speedware

Thanks for your help!

LuAnne
