Tom,

  Verity (www.verity.com) puts out several types of packages
that allow for indexing many different document types.  Since
a version of Verity is included with Cold Fusion, I checked my
docs and it claims to support Word Perfect for Windows 5.x,6,7,8
and Word Perfect for MacIntosh 2 and 3.  You can very easily
create the Verity index and use CF as your web front-end if
you want to "roll your own".  I also believe that Verity
themselves put out a complete content management solution
if you need that sort of control over things.
