To All Interested Faculty and Professional Staff:

You may recall the 2/26 report about a group hosted by the Counseling and Career Planning Center for faculty/professional staff dealing with students who present special problems. I also mentioned how well-attended and extremely productive this first group was. As I also mentioned, the group decided to meet periodically (2-4 times per semester) with each discussion focused on a specific topic. Rather than a didactic presentation, interested faculty and professional staff can come to share and gather information and ideas.

The next group will be on Wed., Apr. 21 at 2pm. We will meet in the Conference Rm. of the Counseling and Career Planning Center (335 Univ. Center, x4438). Prior notification is not required but would be helpful for the purpose of scheduling, refreshments, etc.

The topic, generational differences and how they relate to faculty/student interaction, will be one that generated lively discussion in the last group. From the "Millineum Generation" (some are here and more will be coming!), thru "Gen X'ers", "Baby Boomers", and that generation going back to when things were supposedly simple enough that we didn't have to name everything, there are important differences in cultural experience that impact communication and understanding.

Please join us.

Thanks,

Ed Smith
