You need to add a parameter to the Cobol calls to Fortran/77
routines, if any of the parameters being passed are strings.
After the string parameter, add a \LEN\ parameter.
Define LEN as  01  LEN  pic 9(9) comp.
(You don't have to call it LEN, if you prefer a different name.)
You don't need to put any value into the LEN variable.
