> Does anyone use XWindows on the 3000? What product? Any free ports?

There's a developer's kit for X on the 3000 I believe. Not sure if it
is part of FOS these days or not. It includes a relatively old version
of X11 (R4? 5?) and Motif (1.0? 1.1?). There is no window manager
currently available for MPE (though you could probably port one of the
many Linux compatible free ones should you so desire), so you can only
run X clients on a 3000 if you have an X server (display) which is
running a window manager (Unix workstation, X server for Windows like
Reflection/X, etc.).

The limited availability of X display hardware at HP3000 shops has
pretty much restricted the development of X based applications for
MPE.

Java/iX currently supports (more or less) the X based AWT implementation,
meaning that if you have an X server (display) you can run graphical Java
code on your 3000 (though whether you would want to or not is another
issue).

X is a relative resource hog (making heavy use of the network in many
Motif apps), and not a particularly efficient way of connecting clients
to an HP3000 server.
