Why do you need a FORTRAN programmer?

The company I worked for in 1981/3 converted from an IBM Materials 
Management system (written in RPG that ran on our Series III's) to 
MANMAN. Apart from myself who also knew COBOL & SPL, all the other 
programmers only knew RPG.

We added extra features found in our IBM system to MANMAN using RPG, 
COBOL (*) and Quiz (**). The only FORTRAN source code we purchased from 
them was for part of the Menu system so we could make our in-house built 
features look like part of MANMAN. It didn't take us long to work out 
how to add our entries and compile/link the 'new' menu.

(*) Used a routine from the Contributed Software Library that converted 
between REAL and Integer numbers. Can't remember which CSL release but 
it was one of the early ones. You should be able to find it on Keven 
Miller's site (http://www.3kranger.com/HP3000/CSL/CSL_library.htm).

(**) The company used to be called Quasar System and it was pre COGNOS & 
PowerHouse ADT.
